I struggle to get 8 hours sleep but know that when I do I always seem to have a more positive outlook on life. I agree about walking. I've been taking a short break at lunch and taking a walk and it has been wonderful. I come up with lots of ideas and even solve some problems while I am walking. The weather here in California has been sunny and beautiful and that lifts my spirits too! Thank you for sharing your insights from the book with us.

You are right about happiness being elusive. I like how the Gretchen Rubin tries to sum it all up by following Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, who defined obscenity by saying "I KNOW IT WHEN I SEE IT," and Louis Armstrong, who said, "IF YOU HAVE TO ASK WHAT JAZZ IS, YOU'LL NEVER KNOW," and A. E. Housman, who wrote that he "COULD NO MORE DEFINE POETRY THAN A TERRIER CAN DEFINE A RAT" but that he "RECOGNIZED THE OBJECT BY THE SYMPTOMS IT EVOKES." I posted this on my Facebook too. :)

It's neat you still have Borders there -- they closed down here. I miss having a book store in the mall.

Happiness to me is one of those elusive qualities -- it seems like if I focus on it and strive after it, it's harder to attain, but when I am doing what I am supposed to, it just comes unawares. But there are always a few things I can count on to make me happy: getting a project finished, dinner out, chocolate.....:-)

Dear Alice, I am your new reader. Im in the midst of planning for a trip in Perhentian Island and did some random "googling" and stumbled upon your blog. Your lovely blog.

I must say that I really really love it. Been digging the archive ever since.The photos that you took are simply exquisite. Im eagerly waiting for your next post and next collection of photos.
