Friday Finds: SANDOKAN by Emilio Salgari

http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com/

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Friday Finds came early this week! My heartfelt thanks to a very dear friend, Maristella Tagliaferro, for bringing Sandokan to my attention. I'm very excited about this book. Although the legendary author Emilio Salgari never set foot in Malaysia, he wrote an awesome series about the fictional character Sandokan through sheer research that became very famous in Italy.

I also found out that a translation of the book was done (supposedly from English to Malay and not from its original language, Italian). It was launched on 26 October 2010, a collaboration between Institut Terjemahan Negara Malaysia (ITNM) and Ambassador of Italy in Kuala Lumpur. Read news here.

Sandokan is a fictional pirate of the late 19th century, who first appeared in publication in 1883, created by Italian author Emilio Salgari. He is the protagonist of eleven adventure novels and is known throughout the South China Sea as "The Tiger of Malaysia". (Source: WIKIPEDIA)

I've placed an order for the Malay edition (ISBN: 9879830685335) of the book from ITNM and hope to receive it soon!

Buy from: Amazon.com (English) | IBS.it (Italian) | ITNM (Malay) | FREE Excerpt (up to Chapter 3)
