Wordless Wednesday: Sassi di Matera

Come with me to the ancient town of Sassi di Matera (the stones of Matera) in the region of Basilicata, in southern Italy. The town lies in a small canyon, which has been eroded in the course of years by a small stream, the Gravina.

I'm glad to have visited Matera where two of the famous biblical period motion pictures were filmed (the ones I have watched): Pier Paolo Pasolini's The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964) and Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ (2004).
