Special permission must be granted by the “Fabbrica di San Pietro” and visits are organized according to the schedule set by the Ufficio Scavi. If you’re interested, you can find out more about it here (Italian | English). I’m super excited to be permitted to enter the historical and archaeological site, and to be so close to the tomb of the Apostle Peter! *squuuueeee*

Earlier I was planning to visit the Necropolis the same day that I booked the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica guided tour, but since that is not possible, I must make another trip to the Vatican City. I don’t mind one bit. I must be careful to observe the appropriate dress code when at the Holy Site. No cameras and large bags are allowed in the necropolis, and that’s OK by me because I want to soak in the atmosphere and be present.
For the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica guided tour, it follows an itinerary which includes the Pio Clementino Museum, Upper Galleries, the Raphael Rooms, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. I bought the online voucher directly with the Vatican Museums for €37 which includes admission tickets. A word of caution here: I almost bought the tour with another ticketing agent for €50 and when I dig deeper, they charge extra for administrative charges, so I saved €13! I can now spend the money on pranzo (lunch) or gelato.
