Alice Reads: LAND BELOW THE WIND by Agnes Keith

Slowly but surely, I finished reading Land Below the Wind by Agnes Keith. While I wouldn’t say I loved the 371-page book, it is still a good, engaging read.

There’s humor in the storytelling about the author’s life in the pre-WWII Sabah. She takes readers along with her to her journey together with her husband into the jungles, rivers and her encounters with the natives of North Borneo. This book won her the Atlantic Monthly Non-Fiction Prize. Her second book, Three Came Home (a touching account of her life and her son’s as prisoners-of-war during WWII in Borneo), was made into a film and she became famous.
