What a sound advice! I adapted (haha!) the following text from Austin Kleon's STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST (ISBN: 9780761169253) on page 119. Words in bold are mine.
I’m a boring gal with a nine-to-five job who lives in a quiet neighborhood with her cat. This whole romantic image of the creative genius doing drugs and running around and sleeping with everyone is played out. It’s for the superhuman and the people who want to die young. The thing is: It takes a lot of energy to be creative. You don’t have that energy if you waste it on other stuff.
It is true. Routine is my good friend. I certainly need it to have the resources and the availability to do what I love to do; to channel my creative energy. The good news is I love what I'm doing nine-to-five. Methinks "be boring" is such a good advice to allow for the greater good. Mi piace! (I like!)

I agree. Routine keeps me going too and once I regroup I can be very creative (part of my job).
