THE REPORT: VMAC Executive PA Forum 2010

Last week, I was at Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur to speak at the Executive PA Forum held on 11th and 12 March organized by VMAC . I enjoyed myself very much in the conference, meeting with other speakers and participants. My speaker slot was the fifth session on the first day covering the topic Executing Excellent Non Verbal and Verbal Communication Skills to Avoid Miscommunication (Please see my presentation or download it here). Special thanks to Sarah Cheah of VMAC for contacting me to speak in this conference, and the VMAC team for the great job on that day!

A short break before continuing with the day's sessions

Chew Hoong Ling, Master of Ceremony (Malay and English), Vice President of Malaysia National Youth Association, is also an organ donation activist. Like Melissa, we met again this year. We were both speakers in another conference last year and at that time, she was an executive assistant at Xeersoft.

This is an excerpt from part of the Og Mandino scroll in which Hoong Ling used when she concluded her session. We each read a portion of the scroll and this was mine:
I will greet this day with love in my heart.

And how will I confront each whom I meet? In only one way. In silence and to myself I will address him and say I Love You. Though spoken in silence these words will shine in my eyes, unwrinkle my brow, bring a smile to my lips, and echo in my voice; and his heart will be opened. And who is there who will say nay to my goods when his hearts feel my love?

Jenni Wright, Founder of Emotional Intelligence Adelaide, is a trainer, speaker and author. You can also find her on Twitter and LinkedIn.

I bought a copy of Jenni's new book Emotional What? Emotional Intelligence for the Rest of Us and I can't wait to learn more from her compilation of articles and stories on the subject. Here's a brief synopsis from the back of the book:
Do you have emotions? Have they ever gotten the better of you? Do you want to be more intelligent? Do you want to know what these two things have to do with each other? How can we even use them in the same sentence?

Taking her springboard foundation works in the area of Emotional Intelligence by John Mayer, Peter Salovey, and Daniel Goleman, Jenni encourages you to dive with her into the depths of knowledge. She will throw you into the deep end of this pool of research and teach you to know yourself in a new way.

We're a gorgeous and brilliant lot!

The good stuff from VMAC

My apologies to Nor Afizah, PA to CEO, Nationwide Courier. I did not manage to take a photo of her. She spoke on the topic of exploring the need to rational and think from the boss' perspectives to make beneficial and wise decisions.

Last but not least, I was also thrilled when Jenni left me a glowing recommendation on LinkedIn. (Thank you, Jenni! That's very sweet of you.) This is what she said:
“Alice is a person with a wide experience in various industries. When conveying this knowledge to others Alice is an interesting and informative speaker. I had the pleasure of hearing her presentation when we were both guest speakers at an event held in Kuala Lumpur. Alice's presentations are of the highest quality in both her speaking and the slides she creates. They adequately represent her broad knowledge and I strongly recommend that you view her SlideShare presentations for further information about her work.”
