Me and My Kindle

The Verdict: I LOVE MY KINDLE TO BITS! It's one of the best gadget investments I've made.

There you go. I started the post with my verdict. I was in Singapore last week from Wednesday to Sunday, and on Saturday, I met up with my friend Wesley who had helped collected and brought Kindle back for me. He'd given me his address in the U.S. so that I could buy and get it sent there. Thank you, Wesley!

I played with my Kindle and got it fully charged. Buying Kindle Edition books are super easy using its Buy now with 1-Click option. So easy it becomes very dangerous because before I could say "cheese" I've checked out more than 20 books! I also downloaded two FREE books: The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen and Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate.

Here are some notes of my Kindle experience:

  1. I tried using it's Whispernet wireless capability and it worked. But because I am residing outside the U.S., I would need to pay a fee of US$1.99 when downloading books or single issues of periodicals from my Archived Items or the Kindle Store.

  2. BUT, there's a way to work around this. In order not to pay any fees, I downloaded my books to my laptop and transfer them to my Kindle using USB. It uses the usual drag-and-drop function of saving files into folders.

  3. I also downloaded the Kindle for PC application so that I can read the books on my laptop as well. This works beautifully.

  4. The slim Kindle reads like a breeze with user-friendly navigation, the buttons are placed at all the right places, and the screen is super clear without glare even under the sun!

  5. I can do annotations using its nifty keyboard and there's even a built-in dictionary.

  6. Another nice feature of Kindle is its screensaver. When the device goes into that mode, it shows bookish pictures such as Jane Austen, Emily Dickinson, James Joyce, Greek gods, and many more. They still look very cool even though in black and white. Classic.
