Book shopping for the new HBO miniseries "The Pacific"

I read with great interest in The Sun newspaper today about the highly anticipated epic war miniseries, The Pacific, which will premier on April 3 on HBO (Astro Channel 411) and HBO HD (Astro Channel 431). Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman reunites to serve as executive producers. They were the creative team behind the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

Excerpt from The Sun: The Pacific is a 10-part miniseries which gives an unflinching and realistic look at the war that was fought in the South Pacific during World War II. It is based on the memoirs of former US Marines Corporal Eugene ‘Sledgehammer’ Sledge (With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa and also China Marine) and Private First Class Robert Leckie (Helmet for My Pillow).

I decided to break my book-buying ban and go book hunting. Online. This is the comparison chart I made when I was shopping for the three memoirs mentioned above. Looking at various options, I went to Amazon.com (with shipping), Book Depository (free shipping) and Kinokuniya (local store with shipping). Here's how my little analysis looked like:

The prices are as of March 25, 2010
Notes:
  1. Same ISBN numbers are used for fair comparison
  2. The conversion rate used for USD to RM is 3.40

The verdict: I placed the order with Amazon because even with shipping costs included, it is still cheaper than Kinokuniya (surprise! surprise!) and Book Depository. Since I am not in a hurry to read them, I can wait for the shipment to arrive, which usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks.

Is anyone watching The Pacific or has read the memoirs above?
