Mailbox Monday: American Rust (AND, Blog Award!)

I am feeling very loved on a Monday morning when I saw a package on my table from Wendy of Musings of a Bookish Kitty. It's the book (American Rust by Philipp Meyer) I'd won from her book giveaway a few weeks ago. Thank you so much, Wendy, for the book! It's perfect for my Mailbox Monday post, so here we go. The meme is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

Set in a beautiful but economically devastated Pennsylvania steel town, American Rust is a novel of the lost American dream and the desperation--as well as the acts of friendship, loyalty, and love--that arises from its loss. From local bars to trainyards to prison, it is the story of two young men, bound to the town by family, responsibility, inertia, and the beauty around them, who dream of a future beyond the factories and abandoned homes.

Left alone to care for his aging father after his mother commits suicide and his sister escapes to Yale, Isaac English longs for a life beyond his hometown. But when he finally sets out to leave for good, accompanied by his temperamental best friend, former high school football star Billy Poe, they are caught up in a terrible act of violence that changes their lives forever.

Picasso Award

And now for the blog award that I received from Lisa Roe of OnlinePublicist. In getting this award, I would need to share 7 things about myself with you. I'm sure you're already quite sick of hearing things about me (LOL!) and I really am a predictable girl. But still, please bear with me while I share some of my "dark secrets" with you...
  1. I love Ellen DeGeneres, especially when she's Dory in Finding Nemo. She's got real good sense of humor, that woman.
  2. Coffee really is the nectar of the gods, and it's the drink of my life.
  3. I enjoy being alone with myself.
  4. I am going to get a tattoo soon (still working on the design).
  5. I tried living without Facebook for 3 weeks but couldn't last longer than 3 days.
  6. Kindle is going to be my reservoir of forbidden reading materials, if you know what I mean...
  7. I am learning the art of massage.
Time to pass it on. I'm giving this award to ALL my blog friends!
