Watching TWILIGHT

Hugging my Doraemon plush buddy, I waited for my clock to strike 9.30 p.m. so that I can watch TWILIGHT with my good friend, Rudi Nuissenburg from The Netherlands. We set the "screening" to be at 2.30 p.m. his time and 9.30 p.m. mine, set up our DVDs and wait to get started at the designated time.

Enjoying a movie like this and I meant joint-movie watching--from different parts of the world, but at the same time--is an interesting experience. We had brief chats while watching it and there were some scenes we particularly enjoyed.

Rudi would go I wish I could spin my car like that (this is the part where Edward drives in--fast and furious--to the rescue when Bella is being disturbed by a bunch of dudes), and he wants to be a spider monkey like Edward (remember the part where Edward climbs a tree with Bella piggybacking him when she visits the Cullens?).

For me, I have a few favorite quotes:
  • Your blood is like a drug to me; you're my personal brand of heroin (I love the way Edward said those words. It was beautiful. His expression, the feelings he poured into it... Well, I got teary-eyed at this part.)
  • I am unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him (This is from Bella's thoughts when she expressed the three things that she realizes about Edward: 1) Of what he is, 2) Of what is dominant, and 3) Of her unconditional and irrevocable love for him. It's a beautiful thing to have such clarity. These three things can be applied to a non-vampire, fully human guy.)

  • Is it not enough to have a long and happy life with me? (It is such a beautiful question or statement made by Edward at the end of the movie. I know what my answer would be when asked the same.)
I love the part where Edward is so tenderly kissing Bella and they're talking until Bella falls asleep. I love the part where Edward and Bella are so high up in the trees forgetting about the world and talking to each other so comfortably. And Bella knows she is utterly safe with him. Most of all, I love how Edward is so protective of her.

You know what. I will never get tired of the book or the movie. Its message is something that resonates with all of us. What makes it even more interesting is the human/vampire love angle, and later with a werewolf added into the picture.

Each time I watch this movie or read this book, it becomes clearer to me why the person Edward is such an appealing, wonderful character. If you truly love a person, becoming an Edward (loving, protective, romantic) will be like something you're born to do. With the right person. Love is an action.

So Rudi, thank you for watching TWILIGHT with me and for trying out this joint-movie watching idea! I had lots of fun. Don't forget to read the book too!

  14. Hi Melody, it sure was. Like you, I enjoyed both too. :D

Thanks, Darlyn! Strangely I'm not too fond of the Edward in the movie because I think nobody can really play Edward from the book, because he's really perfection. But I do agree with you that the Edward in the movie is appealing. :D
