Reading Challenge: "What's in a Name? 3"

I'm joining another reading challenge for year 2010! Beth of Beth Fish Reads is hosting the What's in a Name? 3 reading challenge (do click on the link to find out more), and I think it's an interesting one to whittle down my TBR pile. This challenge runs from January 1 to December 31, 2010.

In some of the categories below I've listed more than one title, but that does not mean I'll read them all. It just means that I have more choices to pick from. Here are the titles:

A book with a food in the title
  • Chocolat
  • Lollipop Shoes, both by Joanne Harris
A book with a body of water in the title.
  • Midnight Bayou by Nora Roberts
A book with a title (queen, president, sir) in the title.
  • The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman
  • The Dragon Prince by Thich Nhat Hanh
  • The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice
A book with a plant in the title.
  • Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
  • Blue Dahlia by Nora Roberts
  • The Rose Labyrinth by Titania Hardie
A book with a place name (country, city) in the title.
  • 79 Park Avenue by Harold Robbins
  • The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker
A book with a music term in the title.
  • The Piano Teacher by Janice Y. K. Lee
~~~
I have a feeling I'll be participating in a few more challenges for next year, especially something related to the young adults category. Will scout around all my favorite book blogs and keep all of you posted. More reading power to 2010!
I saw this challenge, and it sounds fun, but I'm holding off. I am such a chicken, afraid to over-commit. I have 8 definite challenge I will participate in, with one or two maybes.
Good luck with the challenge, Alice! I want to join again, but the sad truth is that I'm not sure if I'll even complete it this year :(
Hi Tina/Rosie, thank you for coming to visit! I'm glad you've enjoyed my blog and happy that you've considered me to review the beautifully illustrated book. I've enjoyed our email correspondences! Now that I've received the PDF copy of the book, I'm targeting to post the review by next week. :D
Hey Sandy! You're so NOT a chicken. You're very good for signing up for all the challenges and I haven't even come close to that! Have fun with them all, OK? :)
Thanks, Ana! Not to worry about it. We all have different goals...
Thanks, Diane! Thanks, Naida! I'm curious about THE ICE QUEEN and also been wanting to read that Nora Roberts book for a while now.
Thanks, Melody! And you have fun with yours too. :D
I see some NR books on your list - great choice! And ohhhhh you gonna love MIDNIGHT BAYOU! That one of my favorite of Nora :)
This challenge is very similiar to the one I've been doing for the last two years now with my friend Darla. I post the challenge at my blog every now and than, if I have the book to met the critical. I think you have seen some of what I've done :) Good luck with the challenge!
This is one of the challenges I'm seriously considering. Good luck!
Hi Julia, I can't help but think of you when I read a book by NR. Hehe... YOu sure do the fun stuff with Darla. Good luck with achieving your reading challenge too. :)
Looks like a fun challenge. Midnight Bayou was fun.
Awwww, that so sweet. And I think of you too when I re-read any of NR books and think "Alice might like this one" *grin*. I do however wish that you try to read the first book to the In Death series starting with NAKED IN DEATH. It is written by NR but under another name JDRobb. I know you've read one of her book, but sweety it out of order LOL! You will understand a lot more if you read it in order. Because the relationship development between the main characters Eve and Roarke span out through the all the series. And the gang relationship/friendship develope as well.
Alice Teh said...
Hi Stacy, with another vote for Midnight Bayou, that looks like the book that I will read to kick start the challenge! :D
Hey Julia! You're too sweet! I'm going to take up your recommendation and start the In Death series. Can't read NR without JDRobb! Heheee...
Book Talk
"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."
