Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday. This meme is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. I get to participate again this week (YAY!) because I've received a package from Robyn Schechter of Carol Fass Publicity & Public Relations, New York. She sent me The Cost of Dreams by Gary Stelzer. Thank you, Robyn!

This is the first book in the series of novels that depicts a young Mayan woman's extraordinary journey of survival. Set against the vivid backdrop of a Central American country in turmoil and a desolate Mexican wilderness, The Cost of Dreams introduces a masterful new writer of fiction. Gary Stelzer, a retired Midwest physician, draws upon an ordeal of one of his most memorable patients for a novel that's both a powerful, compelling page-turner and a poignant illumination of a woman's-and a people's-struggle to survive.

This sounds like a good one Alice. By the way I mailed your package out last week. They said it takes up to 8 weeks or more to get to you so it may be a bit of a wait.

How exciting! When I was a child, I used to go around telling everyone that I was a Mayan princess. Silly, I know. LOL I can't wait to see what you think of this one, Alice.

Book Talk

"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."
