The Lord of the Rings Readalong

I found out about this reading challenge from Beth of Beth Fish Blogs and immediately knew that I must participate. I've always wanted to reread The Lord of the Rings series, and what better time to do this than in 2010? Will you be joining in too? This is what we need to do:

Starting January 1, 2010, we’ll be reading one book from the series (including The Hobbit) each month with a goal of finishing all four books in April. We’ll be taking turns hosting the readalong, so you can follow our intrepid fellowship of readers around the blogosphere. Here’s where you’ll find us each month:

For more information about this challenge and to sign up, please visit Teresa's blog at Shelf Love!

I love the idea, but I'm not sure I can handle the commitment, with all the other challenges I want to do! Someday, I do really want to read this series!

I've tried to read the first book to LORD OF THE RINGS but just couldn't. However, I've seen all the movies and LOVE them! I wish you good luck on the challenge, Alice - I know you can do it! :)

This sounds so fun, but like what Sandy said, I'm not sure if I can handle the commitment. ;)

Sandy, Melody: That's all right. I've read this series in 2005 and I've always wanted to re-read them, so this is the time for me. :D

Thanks, Julia! When the story is broken down into 3 parts like that and to be read over 3 months, it becomes less daunting than reading the entire book at one go. Hehe...

Someday I'm going to re-read this series - all of it - but I've joined too many other challenges. Maybe net year I can break each book down into two months.

Thanks for the comments on my blog, I love hearing from you.

Hi Book Dragon! I'm enjoying your blog. I think one book every two months for the series is a good way of tackling it. :)

I would love to reread this series, but I have so many other TBR I'd better not at this time. It would be so fun to do it with others, though.

Have fun, Alice! LoTR is wonderful.

That's all right, Barbara. I'm so looking forward to this one. :D

Thanks, Ana! LOTR is super!

My reading quota is kind of all filled up next year but I'll think about it. I think these would be good to listen to on audiobook if I do decide to re-read.

Welcome to the readalong. I'm really looking forward to it. This will be my 5th read (6th if you count the time listened to the audio).

Hi Jen, listening to the audiobook version sounds like a great idea!

Hi Teresa, that's a great many times you've read the series! Awesome!

Book Talk

"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."

- William McPherson
