2010 Young Adult Reading Challenge

OK! Here’s another challenge that I’ve decided to join for 2010 and it’s the Young Adult Reading Challenge hosted by J. Kaye. I am going with “The Mini YA Reading Challenge” where participants read 12 YA books. There are several other levels so please find out more at her blog.

YA is one of my favorite genres. For this challenge, I browsed through my LibraryThing inventory under the YA tag and came up with the following more-or-less-definite and alternate lists, as a rough guide:

A more-or-less-definite list
  1. Brisingr by Christopher Paolini
  2. Changeling by Steve Feasey
  3. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
  4. Jinx by Meg Cabot
  5. Ordinary Ghosts by Eireann Corrigan
  6. Ransom My Heart by Meg Cabot and Mia Thermopolis
  7. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
  8. Stolen by Lucy Christopher
  9. The Society of S by Susan Hubbard
  10. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
  11. The Wind Singer by William Nicholson
  12. Tithe by Holly Black
Alternate list
  1. Double Exposure by Kathy Wierenga
  2. Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr
  3. Opportunity Knocks Twice by David Lambert
  4. Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel
  5. The Goose Girl by Shannon
  6. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
I am also leaving some buffer for TWO more challenges that I want to re-participate next year, if they are happening (I hope they will!) and those are Manga Challenge by Rhinoa and R.I.P. by Carl V. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I've been reading a whole lot of YA lately too. Half of those are on my TBR (and one to re-read) list.

Hi Dar, I just visited your blog and oh boy, the number of challenges you'll be participating is like... WOW! All the best to you and have fun! :D

Hi Jen! That's really cool! I need to try to whittle down my TBR as well.

Book Talk

"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."
