Friday Firsts: All the Pretty Girls

Here's the rules of the meme:
  • Grab the book you are currently reading and open to the first page.
  • Write down the first sentence in the first paragraph.
  • Create a blog post with this information. (Make sure to include the title & author of the book you are using. Even an ISBN helps!)
  • Did this first sentence help draw you into the story? Why or why not?

All the Pretty Girls
By J.T. Ellison
Publisher: MIRA
Published: 2007
ISBN-13: 9780778327158
411 pages

First sentence: "No. Please don't." She whispered the words, a divine prayer.

The first sentence helped draw me into the story because of its pleading tone. I want to know why the girl is whispering such a request. Is she in pain or in trouble? Since this book is a thriller, it immediately triggers a reaction in me that perhaps she is being tortured. This is a debut novel by J.T. Ellison and I think she's done a great job with it. I'm enjoying the story and hope to finish it over the weekend.
