RELC International Hotel, Singapore

Initially, I had wanted to do this post for Wordless Wednesday featuring RELC International Hotel in Singapore, but then I have quite a bit to say so I think I'm better off doing a full post. I made this trip for the Dead Sea Scroll exhibition held at The Arts House. I booked the room using because I wanted to test out the Internet hotel booking service by this provider. I have tried a few others and thought I shouldn't miss out on this one.

I found out by accident that my check-in date was a day later instead of Saturday, September 5. Had I not called the hotel on Friday to ask if towels are provided (I was packing for my trip), I wouldn't know there had been a glitch in the booking date. My confirmation voucher obviously stated the date as 5th and not 6th. It was promptly rectified by RELC and I checked in the next day without any problem. The reception folks were friendly and helpful.

The room I book was a Standard Budget room at S$85 nett per night, without breakfast. The room rate fluctuates so please check. I walked from the hotel to Orchard Road, where the buzz is, especially for shopping. The walk took about 15 minutes and was pleasant. I walked back to the hotel after meeting with my friends and that was around 11.30 p.m.; very safe to walk at night.

There are two single beds with very basic amenities (no mini bar, no TV). It is clean and the air-conditioning is adjustable. Towels are provided. Oh yes, my room was a "twin room" sharing a bathroom (my room key opened a main door, which then opened my room door). The room next to mine was unoccupied so I more or less had the whole place to myself.

The bathroom is detached and is to be shared with another room. It is clean and the shower head is great. The water heater works well too. Note: Do remember to lock the bathroom because it's a common bathroom shared with the other room.

Overall, I would say that it is an excellent hotel for budget travelers. The service is great, the facilities are clean, and the location is good. It is easy to get a taxi -- just let the hotel staff know. In fact, they took the proactive approach by asking if I need a taxi and I really appreciated it. I rate it excellent. Oh... and do double-check on your check-in date just to be sure that everything is in order.
