The Hunger GamesBy Suzanne Collins

12 Districts, 12 boys, 12 girls: Each district is to provide 1 boy and 1 girl to be entered as tributes into the Hunger Games in the Capitol, Panem. Conducted annually to punish citizens for an earlier rebellion, it also serves as a reminder. District 12’s Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take over her younger sister’s place. Peeta Mellark goes with her. Together they are to fight to death and ultimately only one will be the winner. I don’t like the idea of children being tossed into such a deadly and cruel “game,” but the book kept me in suspense throughout.

I always feel bad when I explain to people what this book is about. They think I am nuts to read about a book where children are killing each other. However, it isn't that bad as they don't push it in your face.
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing this book for awhile; I'll add it to my list!
ReplyDeleteHi Viv, I do share the same feeling and thought. Apart from the fact that children are being asked to kill each other, there is a story being it and lots to be learned from it as well such as friendship, love, loyalty, and the physically strong ones don't always win.
ReplyDeleteFor example, Katniss uses her brain a lot in thinking of the strategies to chart her next moves. Not only her, her team members from costume designers to her mentor (winner of the past Hunger Games many years ago), they strategize too. Even her team mate, Peeta has some tricks up his sleeves.
There is a lot going on in this story and that's why I loved it. :D
Hi Renee, I do hope you'll like it because the book made me think on many levels. :)
ReplyDelete100 word reviews are about as hard as my six sentence Saturday's...
ReplyDeleteI really need to read this one.
ReplyDeleteI loved your 100 word review; very cool. I want to read this one soon.
ReplyDeleteKelly, I so agree with you. I had to really think what to write and 100 words are used up before I could blink...
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, you must!
Thanks, Diane, I hope you'll read this soon. Glad you like my 100-word review. :D
I enjoyed reading this book, though like you I don't like the idea of children as tributes and getting killed.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to find out what's happening in the next sequel!!
Same feeling here, Melody! I am so waiting for the second book to arrive from Book Depository. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI just read the two books. Its quite a good read.
