Synopsis from the back cover: Trouble comes in small packages. This one is five feet tall and weighs 98 pounds. Her name is Serenity Harper and she's one obnoxious little bundle of attitude, anger, and animosity. Can the care and concern of Derek, Kimberly, and the rest of the Prayer Club break through Serenity's tough shell--and prove to her that true love does exist?

Chapter 1: Serenity fits like a tarantula on a wedding cake.

Genre: Manga. Inspirational. Young Adults.

What led you to pick up this book? I got the series (four books) for a really great bargain at Christianbook.com for just US$3.80.

Summarize the plot minus spoilers: Serenity is a lonely teen from a broken family who just wants to be accepted. She has been expelled four times and this is her last chance. At her new school, the Christian prayer group, Prayer Club, takes Serenity on as a project, showing her friendship and love. She likes Derek and is determined to snag him from Kimberly. And despite being a Christian, Kimberly develops a mild hostility towards Serenity.

What did you like most about the book? I think it takes a lot of courage for Christian youths--Derek, Kimberly, Tim, and a few others--to befriend her. They openly profess their faith and are not afraid of what other people may think of them. They also show genuine care and friendship to "hardcore" people like Serenity. Despite a familiar storyline, I am hooked instantly.

What did you like least? The story may sound a little cliched but whichever way you look at it, Serenity's problem is very real.

What did you think of the main character? Serenity is a believable character that yearns for love and attention although she certainly does not project it. She sends out very negative vibes and is a fond user of foul language. She even has a pet tarantula named Tinkerbelle. Despite her bad attitude I like her and am rooting for her.

What about the ending? The ending left me eager to jump into the next story.

Here are some of the relevant Bible quotes in context with story, which are only quoted at the end of the book as reference:
When Serenity steals the jar of money collected by a fellow student to be donated to an animal charity: "There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known." ~ Matthew 10:26 (NIV)

When Serenity tries to seduce the good looking Derek, who is Kimberly's boyfriend: Abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. ~ 1 Peter 2:11 (NIV)
Would you recommend this book? Yes

Should anyone NOT be encouraged to read it? Why? It is an inspiring Christian graphic novel that is easy to read and entertaining. Everybody's encouraged to read it and go through the difficult phase with Serenity.
