Follow-up to last week’s question:
Do you keep all your unread books together, like books in a waiting room? Or are they scattered throughout your shelves, mingling like party-goers waiting for the host to come along?
I am currently making a serious effort to whittle down my TBR pile by consciously controlling my book buying habit. It is really, really hard because I just want to own many of the great books I see and the justification I gave myself is so that I could reach out for them whenever I want to read them.
All my books, read and unread, are all housed in my bookshelves. I do have a separate shelf to place all the 91 books that I will be reading for my 999 Challenge.
I keep track of my TBR through my catalog at LibraryThing and Facebook. More than half the books in my catalog are TBRs.

Shelf space is running out—in fact, it's already non-existent—so I'm planning to box up books that I will not be reading again. Time to go shopping at IKEA!
I would like to find out from booklovers here on how to keep books "safe" and in good condition in storage? If you have any tips for that, do share! Thanks!

I definitely need more bookshelves, but I've no shelf space for them either, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI keep most of my read books in boxes, or at least those that I'm sure I won't be reading again...
I'd love to hear from other booklovers on how to keep their books safe and in good condition too! ;)
Box and label it KIV, when you open it a few years later it's like opening a Christmas present :-)
ReplyDeleteI could use more bookshelves too. I keep a catalog of all the books I own on LibraryThing and my unread books are specially tagged. I also keep a separate spreadsheet that I started long before I joined LT. I still keep it up even though I suppose I don't really need to.
ReplyDeleteWriting down my TBR pile! Forget it!
ReplyDeleteTBR: mixed reactions?
I recently bought a new bookshelf and hopefully won't need anymore for a long time. I am trying to curb my book buying but failing miserably. It doesn't help reading all the great reviews on everyones blogs. Like you I keep my 999 challenge books seperate, but mix the read of my TBR's in with those I have read.
ReplyDeleteHi Melody, at the rate that are buying books, we will never get enough of bookshelves! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, I hope when I open the box a few years later, I won't find moldy and icky looking books...
Hi Wendy, I'm glad to know that you also catalog your books on LibraryThing. I would like to borrow your idea of specially tagging them. I hope that's OK with you.
Hi Gautami, I don't write them but when I catalog all of them as I buy them, I know straight away what I have. :)
Hi Rhinoa! I know what you mean by the book reviews. They're bad in a very good way. LOL!
Mr. Gnoe is buying more and more books that pile on Mt. TBR. I can't keep up! LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question Alice. Me, I keep all my unread books stacked around the house. If I put them on shelves, I won't read them.
ReplyDeletemy shelf space ran out a while ago...lol
ReplyDeleteI do try to keep the TBRs together though.

I seriously need to come up with some book buying rules for myself and then actually enforce them. I don't keep my tbr books together because it would just be too depressing, but maybe that would actually get me to stop :P
ReplyDelete'I am currently making a serious effort to whittle down my TBR pile by consciously controlling my book buying habit.' LOL - that is not what I just read on Facebook. I am sure you just said you bought more books. Tut tut Alice!
ReplyDeleteMr Gnoe, I think we are all like that! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHi CeeCee, I... think... you're... right... I don't think I've touched those books I kept on the shelf for a very long time. Maybe I should start stacking them around the house like you do.
Hi Naida, same here! I need more space. Right now, my new acquisitions sit on the floor, in those large Borders plastic bags and desperately in need of a new home.
Hi Ana, I'm quite depressed already. But still, I kept buying. I need to reinforce my no-buy policy too. Just yesterday evening, I almost clicked the "checkout" button of my online shopping cart. And reading your blog certainly does not help because I just keep on piling on my wish list and eventually TBR. Bad Ana. LOL!
LOL Viv! *Alice lowers her head and feels ashamed* Yes, I did buy books... I will try harder next time. Seriously. :)
