ABF 8th Annual Executive Secretaries and PAs Conference: THE REPORT

Warning: Brace yourself for this is a very long post. . .

A few months ago, I was invited by The Asia Business Forum (ABF) to speak in its 8th Annual Executive Secretaries and Personal Assistants Conference. The day finally arrived for me to travel to Singapore for this conference. I also took the opportunity to catch up with all my friends and former colleagues.

The conference was held from May 27 (Wednesday) to May 28 (Thursday) at the Royal Plaza on Scotts, a five-star business hotel in Singapore. (Updated: Please see my Wordless Wednesday post for pictures of the room) My speaker slot was the first session on the second day covering the topic Career Progression for PAs and Executive Assistants (See my presentation or download it here). I hope you'll enjoy reading this report!

DAY 1: Ms Iris from ABF kickstarted the conference
Mr Victor Koh is the Chief Consultant/Trainer at BRAINERGY INTERNATIONAL. He was also the chairperson for day one of the conference, and spoke on the topic of The Psychology of Effective Communication.
Ms Cheryl Liew is the CEO of LifeWork and spoke on the topic of Understanding the Career Essentials for an Executive Secretary. She is dynamic and her topic jived with mine nicely.
Mr Bentley Williams is a Financial Consultant at Bentley Williams Consulting. He spoke on the topic of The WOW experience that will help you connect with your bosses, colleagues, and clients to build lasting relationships. He is an engaging speaker with a great sense of humour. He made us draw animals that best described us and the end results were hilarious. I drew Pumba from The Lion King.
Dr Sattar Bawany is the Director of Business Development/Head of Transition Coaching, Asia Pacific, at DBM. He spoke about Managing Your Career and Stay Relevant Especially in Current Times. He has many articles published in the Straits Times Singapore and various other professional publications.
And then we break for lunch at the Carousel. Seafood galore--they're super fresh and delicious!
I tried the sushis and they were great!
The dessert rocks!
Taking a closer look at some of the yummylicious desserts
When we return from lunch, Dr Desmond Chan, Imageologist at The HolisticImageArchitecture Group spoke on Improve Yourself by Understanding the Concept of HolisticImageArchitecture. He zoomed in on "you are what you wear" and "you are your energy level". He also demonstrated some simple Qiqong moves.
Mr Hui Kwok Thong is the Managing Director of Infor-Pacific Consultancy Services. He spoke on the topic of Understanding a System Approach and Effective Communications Skills for Optimal Effectiveness.

DAY 2: Mr Alfred Lye
, Group Managing Director at Service Distinction Consulting was the chairperson of the conference, and also a speaker. He talked about Worklife Balance--How Do We Achieve That? I also attended the "The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Ancient World Fund Raiser Dinner" on the same evening, thanks to his invitation. The scrolls on display are very interesting and I posted about the event here. The actual exhibition will be from 27 August to 20 September 2009.
Mr Ernest Chen, Master Speaker and Trainer at Interconex Management, is also the author of Earnestly Speaking. He spoke on the topic of Working Towards Being an Excellent Personal Assistant.
Lana from Indonesia was one of the three participants who won the book Earnestly Speaking
These were the happy delegates from Brunei Darussalam
It's time for lunch!
I decided to try something different for lunch on day 2. The pasta cooked by the above chef was delicious! The roasted chicken was yummy too.
The chicken rice was good. Actually, anything by Royal Plaza on Scotts is GREAT!
After lunch, we returned full and happy, not to mention "drowsy"... Once again, I met with Ms Wendy Lee again! She spoke in the Marcus Evans conference as well. Wendy is a Professional Image Consultant at Chapter One Asia. She spoke on the topic of Creating a successful image and enhancing your personal and professional brand.
Wendy's session is always fun and demonstrative. First the men...
...and then the ladies!
Bapak Renato M Leuterio is a Senior Partner-Advisor at Grant Thornton Indonesia. He spoke on the topic of Dealing Effectively and Efficiently with Bosses. It's interesting to see how things are practiced differently in another culture or country.
Dr KC Chan is a Corporate Trainer and International Management Consultant at Wholistic Learning Consortium. He spoke on the topic of Romancing the 6As of Office Politics and Managing Your Boss/CEO Without Tears. I just found out from my friend, Lenny, that Dr Chan is his lecturer!
Mr Alvin Yapp, Associate Director of Training Edge International spoke on the topic of Perfecting Your Role by Improving Your Interpersonal and Communication Skill
