Following my
National Library post a few days ago, I went there today right after church. Fortunately there was no traffic congestion and I arrived around 1.20 PM and left an hour later. This is my trip! Here's a short report of my library trip:
The main building of the National Library
After activating my membership at the service counter, I ventured into the lending area for adults located in a separate building called Wisma Sejarah
Along the way, I passed by the children library
There's also a mini bazaar
And a cafeteria
Having passed through those areas, I came to the building with section where you can borrow books
Here's a closer look
I said hello to the security guard and entered the building. I waited for the elevator and decided to amuse myself with mirror reflection before reaching the third floor.
Here are the books I borrowed! Books are checked out using identity card. I will provide the translated synopses of the following books in the next post.
1) Jalan Pulang by Anas K. Hadimaja
2) Sungai Mengalir Lesu by A. Samad Said
3) Musim Sepi by Ali Jusoh
Here's the slip I received upon activation at the counter. My membership expires three years from now in May 2012. Membership is free, by the way.
It was nice to see families spending time there. I saw them carrying books in huge bundles (they must be under the family membership scheme whereby each family member is allowed to borrow three books). I foresee myself making a trip there at least once a month to return old books and borrow new ones. My focus is to borrow Malay literature but should I find interesting English fiction, I would borrow them too. Now, if only I could borrow more than three. . .
Ah yes, before I forget, I had a late lunch at 1 Utama after the library trip. The sweet pea sprout and sweet sour chicken dish was quite tasty, but I became thirsty after that even though I'd drank lots of water. It's a sure sign of MSG overload. For MYR6.90++, the portion is small. I had the refreshing iced black jelly (cincau) milk tea for MYR5.50.

Yes, it's MSG, and we put tons of it... U can actually tell the kitchen not to put it. Not a problem.
ReplyDeleteWei Anon, next time I will request the kitchen not to do it now that I know they will for sure. But, if you're cooking when I'm visiting you, please don't MSG me, K? :D
ReplyDeleteActually the National Library is nearby where I live. I should try to make time and visit one day. :P
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! I wish there's a national library near our place.
ReplyDeletethe library looks fabulous. Just another way to find more good books to read!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the books!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a library for a long, long time! I'm glad you borrowed some books, Alice!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I've passed you an award. :)
Hi Natasha! I think it's worth visiting just for the fun of it even though you may not want to be a member. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel, that'd be so nice. The national library is quite far from my place and it's not conveniently accessible as well.
You're right, Viv. I now have access to more FREE books! LOL!
Thanks, Jen! :D
Hi Julia! We are allowed to keep it for three weeks. I hope to read one book per week so that I can return them on time.
Hi Melody, thanks for the award! You make my Monday special! I will visit you when I get home. I cannot access your bloggie from here. :)
Haven't been there & hopefully would be able to do that on my next trip to KL next month.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, me house hv no msg
ReplyDeleteHi Siti Murni, I hope you'll be able to visit it when you come to KL. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great news, Anon! :p BTW, I'd need to get your home addie again... I'll send you me flight itin soon just so you know. :D
Congratulations! I am surprised at the three-book limit. I don't think we have a limit here. I haven't been to the library in a while, but when my kids were little we went there regularly and they loved to stock up on books and then spend the better part of the afternoon having me read to them. Sweet memories!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara! How I wish I could check out more books then I could borrow both Malay and English books... It's very lovely of you to read to your kids. I would definitely read to mine if I have any. :D
ReplyDeleteI love the choices of books you made Alice. Can't wait for your reviews on those books..A Samad Said always been my favourite author. Just wondering if they have Ranjau Sepanjang Jalan..I saw the movie, it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Azah! I saw the book in the library. I read it a few years back on the way to Chiangmai. I think Institut Terjemahan Negara is also working on the English translation. Not sure if it's finished though.
ReplyDeleteYou can check for book availability on PNM's website here.
