Lunch @ Restoran Mai Thai

Our former colleague SL made a lunch date with us (Irene, PS, SY and yours truly) two days ago and for today's two-hour lunch, we went to Restoran Mai Thai in Taman Desa, Old Klang Road, for Thai food. SL came to pick us up at the office. We enjoyed each other's company even though the food was not that great. We waited quite long for the food to arrive, but because we were chatting we didn't really mind. Here's a glimpse of the stuff we ordered. It was a set for five at MYR99.90 for five persons.

We were here!
Inside the restaurant
Getting ready to tuck in and we waited quite long for our food
Thai Cendol (I still like the Malaysian version best, with brown sugar and coconut milk. Yummy...)
Mango Kerabu (This one tasted OK)
Pandan Chicken (There's lots of fat under the skin of this piece of chicken...)
Green Curry Chicken
Mixed Seafood Tomyam
Kailan (I'm not too sure if this is kailan as stated on the menu because it looks more like brusselsprouts to me...)
Deep Fried Mango Fish with mango kerabu covering the fish. I swipe them aside to reveal the fried fish.

The total bill we paid for the set meal was MYR114.89 (~US$33) for 5 pax, including 10% service charge.

  1. The foods are delicious, as always! It have been an awful long time since I gone to eat at Thai restaurant. Last when I went, my sister from WA were here. And the Thai Ice tea version was "oh so GOOD!"

  3. The Thai Cendol looks interesting. I've never seen that in the menu of the Thai restaurants here. Is that pandan under those mangoes?

Hmmm... Isn't that the Mango Kerabu they put on top of the deep fried fish? :)

  4. Alice, are you a Thai food lover?

There is a good Thai restaurant in Ipoh, called Koh Samui! If there is a chance to Ipoh, will definitely invite you there for lunch. ^^

  5. Thanks, Julia! I hope you'll have Thai food again soon. If I go to Thai restaurants again, I'll look out for Iced Tea because you tempted me so. I miss Vietnamese food!

Hi Anne, where are you from? I tried visiting you but couldn't. Maybe you could give me your blog link. :)

Nymeth, here's some mango for you! *gives mango to Nymeth* hehee

Hello Garando, I'm not sure but it's like some sort of long, slim jelly that do taste like pandan. And you're right, that's mango kerabu that they put on top of the deep fried fish. :D

Hi Wing! I'm not exactly a Thai food lover but I do like savoury and spicy food. Hmmm... maybe I should follow you all back to Ipoh one day and kaypoh there. Then we can go makan at Koh Samui! ^^

  6. I always thought brussel spouts looked like mini cabbages -- like these.

I've only tried Thai food once and have to confess I didn't really like the flavor...but that's just me. My adventurer middle son would probably love it.

  10. The food looks great!
I think I still prefer the good ole orangy/reddish curry than the green ones. ;)

  13. Oh... Thanks very much for the award, Melody! You made my Monday even more beautiful today! Like you, I prefer the traditional curry too. I hardly touched the green one at the restaurant. I know I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food...

Hi Jen! They're actually quite strange to me too. I do hope you'll give them a try when you have the opportunity. :)

Thanks, Wendy! I'm sorry I made you hungry. LOL!
