The Challenges Ahead

I am all set for the 2009 999 Challenge! I did some minor housekeeping with my bookshelf today and took out all the books I'll be reading for that challenge. Do click on the link above to see all the 81 titles I've selected under various categories or genres. This is by far, the biggest reading challenge I'm undertaking to complete...

As for the Romance Reading Challenge hosted by Naida, I've decided on the following titles, all published under the Little Black Dress label:

  1. FORGET ABOUT IT by Caprice Crane
  2. SHE'LL TAKE IT by Mary Carter
  3. LOST FOR WORDS by Lorelei Mathias
  4. PICK ME UP by Zoe Rice
  5. THE UNFORTUNATE MISS FORTUNE by Jennifer Crusie, Eileen Dreyer and Anne Stuart

I've also decided on the mangas I'll be reading for the Manga Challenge hosted by Rhinoa. More about the challenge here. The ones I'll be reading are these (all descriptions are from

CHOBITS. Hideki is your typical 20-year-old slacker. He didn`t get into college straight out of high school, so he`s working a dead-end job, can`t find a girlfriend, and is perpetually broke. If only he had a persocon - a humanoid robot - to keep him company, perhaps things wouldn`t be so bad. The problem with persocons is they are incredibly expensive, and it would take Hideki a lifetime to afford one. Then, one day Hideki finds a particularly cute female persocon dumped in a pile of trash, so he decides to take her home. As they say, one man`s trash is another man`s treasure... (Genres: Comedy, Love-Romance, Ecchi, Science-Fiction)

VAMPIRE KNIGHT. Cross Academy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires! Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Yuki believes that vampires and humans can coexist peacefully, but her partner has different ideas... (Genres: Fantasy, Love-Romance, School Life)

BATTLE ANGEL ALITA. When Doc Ido, a talented cyberphysician, finds Alita's head in a junk heap, she has lost all memory of her past life. But when he reconstructs her, she discovers her body still instinctively remembers the Panzer Kunst, the most powerful cyborg fighting technique ever known. In the postapocalyptic world of the Scrapyard, as the secrets of Alita's past unfold, each day is a struggle for survival. (Genres: Action, Adventure, Science-Fiction)

BLEACH. Hot-tempered 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki, the hero of the popular fantasy-adventure Bleach, has the unsettling ability to see spirits who are unable to rest in peace. His sixth sense leads him to Rukia, a Soul Reaper who destroys Hollows (soul-devouring monsters) and ensures the deceased find repose with the Soul Society. When she's injured in battle, Rukia transfers her sword and much of her power to Ichigo, whose spiritual energy makes him a formidable substitute Soul Reaper. But the orange-haired teenager isn't sure he wants the job: too many risks and moral dilemmas. (Genres: Action, Martial Arts)

GREAT TEACHER ONIZUKA (GTO). Meet Eikichi Onizuka, a 22-year-old virgin and ex-biker. He’s crude, foul-mouthed, and has a split second temper. His goal: to be the Greatest High School Teacher in the World! Of course the only reason he wants to be a teacher is so he can try and score with the hot students. Before he can become a teacher, he’s got to work as a student teacher to earn his credentials. Onizuka may think he’s the toughest guy on campus, but when he meets his class full of bullies, blackmailers, and scheming sadists, he’ll have to prove it. (Genres: Comedy, Drama, School Life)

GAKUEN ALICE (Alice Academy). Young Mikan runs away to Tokyo following her best friend, Hotaru, who has been enrolled in an exclusive, secretive private school for geniuses. But it turns out that Alice Academy is a lot more than meets the eye. If Mikan wants to stay by Hotaru's side, she has to both pass the strange "entrance exam" and face the even greater challenge of befriending her very odd new classmates. Whether it's Hotaru's gift for inventing gadgets, the cranky Natsume's fire-casting ability, or Professor Narumi's control of human pheromones, everyone at the school has some sort of special talent. But what ability, if any, does Mikan possess? Mikan is going to have to rely on her courage and spunk if she's going to stay in school, or even stay alive! (Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Shojo, Schoolkids)
