R.I.P. III Wrap-up

The R.I.P. III Challenge was hosted by Carl V at Stainless Steel Droppings and there's also a dedicated review site. It ran from 1st September to 31st October 2008. As you can see this is the third round of the challenge but I participated for the first time. There were a few levels to choose from and I chose 'Peril the First' that is to read at least four books from any of the given categories. More information here. I'm happy to announce that I have completed the challenge!

Books for the challenge

1) Monster by Frank Peretti
2) The Host by Stephenie Meyer
3) The Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko
4) The Haunted Bookshop by Christopher Morley
4) When Twilight Burns by Colleen Gleason
5) The Bleeding Dusk by Colleen Gleason

I did not finish one of the selected books (A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore) but quickly replaced it with two other titles namely The Bleeding Dusk and When Twilight Burns both by Colleen Gleason. None of the books I read spooked me and A Dirty Job is downright silly. I just couldn't finish that one and chose to move on.

The Host (over 700 pages) was a bit wordy but still a good read. Surprisingly, Monster was not as spectacular as it should be seeing that it's a work by Frank Peretti. I would say that the one I have enjoyed the most is The Haunted Bookshop.

All in all, I've enjoyed participating for the first time and definitely am looking forward to the next one. Keep it coming, Carl V!

  1. Congratulations on completing the challenge, Alice! I've only read one Christopher Moore book and I wasn't overly impressed with it, I admit. I know a lot of people find his books hilarious. I do want to give him another try, but we'll see.

  5. Thanks Wendy! Moore is sure hilarious but I couldn't stand his humour. LOL. Maybe one day I'll give him a try again.

Thanks Nymeth! I was hoping to include Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book as well, but oh well... I didn't manage to start on time, so I plan to read it this month.

Hi Melody, I sure will post the review for The Host. It's in queue (I have so many things I want to talk about on my blog LOL)... For now, I like the book and I think Stephenie Meyer did a good job with it. It's a bit lengthy and I do feel certain parts can be shortened. Wanda (real name Wanderer), the soul that has been assigned to Melanie (the host) is a delightful creature. There's a constant tug-of-war between the two now that Melanie is still very prominent even though Wanda has taken over her body. You should read this, Melody!
