James Bond 007: The Penguin Complete Centenary Collection

As I entered the reception lobby after lunch today, the security officer smiled and gestured towards the back of the visitor's counter indicating that there was something for me. (I always say "Hello" to them as I enter the building) So... guess what came in the post today? A HUGE bag of 'something'...

Unravelling what's in the big blue bag...
Taaaah-daaaaah!... Ian Fleming: The Penguin 007 Collection
14 of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels in this beautiful red box!

Here are the titles all for only £58 (including shipping cost of £8, the original price is £100):
  1. Casino Royale
  2. Live and Let Die
  3. Moonraker
  4. Diamonds are Forever
  5. From Russia with Love
  6. Doctor No
  7. Goldfinger
  8. For Your Eyes Only
  9. Thunderball
  10. The Spy Who Loved Me
  11. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  12. You Only Live Twice
  13. The Man with the Golden Gun
  14. Octopussy

The beautiful box set arrived super quickly. The order was placed on October 28 and it arrived today—about a week later! All the way from Penguin UK!

And you know what, the James Bond books arrived just in time, one day before the latest Bond movie QUANTUM OF SOLACE opening in the Malaysian cinemas tomorrow. Speak about perfect timing! The same thing happened with the delivery of Karen E. Olson's latest book SHOT GIRL from the US.

And you know what else? My colleague text-messaged me asking if I'd like to have the tickets for tonight's special screening of QUANTUM OF SOLACE. What a great coincidence, right? But, the tickets were snapped up by another colleague because me-and-my-big-mouth said I had other plans for tonight (which is true) but then I thought I'd change those plans for Mr Bond. Alas, it's too late and someone else bagged those two tickets. Bye-bye Daniel Craig. SIGH~~

P/S: Even the security officers are now very familiar with the boxes of books that arrive in my name. Sometimes they even helped to carry them to my office. Bless them!

Enjoy the books and the movie! I don't think I'll have the time to watch it in the theatre...guess maybe I've to catch it on DVD. *sigh*

Oh Julia, I *heart* James Bond too. Especially THIS Bond (Daniel Craig). I don't care what other people's comments of him are, I really think he's one action-packed secret agent. I heard QUANTUM OF SOLACE is different from the original story in the book (it's one of the short stories in one of the books, can't remember which one though--there are two books which contains short stories). Ya... it's a shame I missed out on those tickets. I'll go watch in the cinema later this week!

Hey Jen, I've only watched a few of the Bond movies--the more recent ones. I think I want to go catch the old ones starting from Doctor No. *GRIN*

Hi Andrew! So happy to hear that you're feeling much better. The fishing trip and sun must be doing you good. Hehehe... Ya, it's never too late to start. So pick up a book and start reading, sir! Anytime you want any book, please let me know and do feel free to browse through my mini library. Maybe I could even give you book vouchers for your birthday! LOL.

Ah yes, Melody... looks like my book ban has gone down the drain. LOLOL. Nooo... you can't watch James Bond on DVD! Please go to a cinema and watch it on a big screen. Daniel Craig is worth all that fuss! (At least that's what I think from his first Bond movie) Hahaaha

Julia said...

I so agree with you, Alice...Daniel Craig...is so worth it! Love him from the last Bond movie he was in...*sigh*

Alice Teh said...

Let's love Daniel together, Julia! You're right. He's so worth it. *sigh*

Wow, that's a nice addition to your book collection. I like the red box.

Quantum of Solace is already showing here too. Hubby and I wanted to watch it yesterday but since Yohan was with us we watched Madagascar 2 instead. Hubby and I will just watch James Bond next time.

Alice Teh said...

Thanks for popping by, Myza! I hope to see you here again. :)

I can't wait to watch QUANTUM OF SOLACE too. Maybe I'll catch the story in the book first, before watching it. I heard that the book and movie are different in its storyline...

are the books nice to read?? i only watched the movie but never the books..

Alice Teh said...

I haven't read any of the books, but will do so soon. Just finished the short story Quantum of Solace, and as I've commented earlier, the story is not the same as the movie--totally different storyline.

I suppose the books will be good. I haven't watch most of the movies but will be going on a Bond DVD marathon starting from Dr. No, all the way to Casino Royale soon.

Julia said...

Hey Alice, just let me know when you have begin the Bond DVD marathon. Maybe we can do the marathon together. I will try to Netflix it, just let me know when you're ready before I put it to the top of my queue list :)

Alice Teh said...

I've downloaded the first five Bond movies from DR. NO to YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. The rest are still in queue.

I'm ready when you're ready!

P/S: I've just finished watching Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Professor Jones (Harrison Ford) looks delectable with his geeky glasses, bow tie and all. hehe...

Julia said...

Hmmm, I may need the list in order of the Bond's movie are in. So that I can quickly add it to my queues. Is DR. NO the first movie? And YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE the 2nd movie?

And of course Harrison look good in geeky glasses and everything -- but wow he is one good looking when he in action with his whip, hat and his Indiana Jones's clothes. Teehehee

Book Talk

"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."
