Booking Through Thursday: Conditioning (AND, a picture meme)

Mariel suggested this week’s question.

Are you a spine breaker? Or a dog-earer? Do you expect to keep your books in pristine condition even after you have read them? Does watching other readers bend the cover all the way round make you flinch or squeal in pain??

Break the spine? Noooooo... I am very careful when reading. People who watch me read would find it awkward because I will be holding the book at an almost closed angle (the opposite pages facing each other closely). Or, if I'm reading while eating—another bad habit of mine—I'll put the side I'm reading on the table while holding the other one. Imagine the book in a 90-degree position or sometimes 45-degree, depending on how flexible the spine is.

Am I a dog-earer? Yes... *hangs head down in shame* I know this is weird—I don't mind dog-earing it myself but I cannot stand borrowers dog-earing the same book I dog-eared.

Finally, watching others bend the cover all the way round really makes me cringe. It breaks my heart. And very close to squealing out loud in pain. Why would someone do that in the first place? It's like murdering the book... I would not be able to bear it if it happens to my book.

Some of my other not-so-good book habits (only for non-fictions): I jot down notes on the books themselves and put down the dates I wrote those notes. It's an amazing feeling to see those dates when I review them in the future. I highlight them with coloured pens. I have a deep need to 'own' them by making marks all over the place. Having done all that, my books are still squeaky new.

One of my very good book habit: I wrap the covers with protective plastic sheets. Every single one of them. I even wrap the current issues of my magazines and keep on recycling the same wrapper (remove from the old; replace onto the new) so that my mags remain as good as new. I'm crazy, I know.

A Picture Meme! Renee of 2 Peas in a Pod tagged me for this meme. Here’s the instructions:

  • Go to your Sixth Picture Folder then pick your Sixth Picture.
  • Pray that you remember the details.
  • Tag 5 others. (I will not be tagging anybody but please feel free to play along!)
Here is my picture:

What's the story with the ostrich? The giant bird's photo was taken on a Saturday afternoon at the KL Bird Park on September 20. Look at its expression. What an attitude!
