New books!

I shopped at MPH Online earlier this week and the new books were delivered to my office this afternoon!

  1. Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger
  2. The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
  3. Interworld by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves
  4. M Is for Magic by Neil Gaiman
  5. The 80/20 Individual by Richard Koch

I have also noticed that Melody had just finished reading Interworld and posted her book review. Please check it out here.

I am hopping on another Indy adventure (Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy) when I'm done with A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham. I love this book! It's a four-character study beautifully written about two boyhood friends (Jonathan, gay and Bobby, not gay), Clare (Jonathan's roommate) and Alice (Jonathan's mom). An intriguing story. Here's a short excerpt from the back cover:

[...] In New York after college, Bobby moves in with Jonathan and his roommate, Clare, a veteran of the city's erotic wars. Bobby and Clare fall in love, scuttling the plans of Jonathan, who is gay, to father Clare's child. Then, when Clare and Bobby have a baby, the three move to a small house upstate to raise "their" child together and create a new kind of family.

I don't think this would sit well with Christian readers but do read it with an open mind. If you do read it, please be warned that there are some graphic intimate parts in the story. Quoting Los Angeles Times, "[...] We come to feel that we know Jonathan, Bobby and Clare as if we lived with them, yet each one retains the mystery that in people is called soul, and in fiction is called art." This is exactly how I felt when I read it.
