Book Meme: Page 123

I have been tagged by Sam of The life and times of me! I love book memes and did not hesitate to dive straight in. This one is so easy to do and fun!

The rules of this particular meme are:

  • Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages)
  • Open the book to page 123
  • Find the fifth sentence
  • Post the next three sentences
  • Tag five people

I have a few books right in front of me at the moment such as Blink, The Amber Spyglass, and a few study textbooks. I picked The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. Here's what happened:

Her hair shone and her dark eyes glittered, and her bare kegs gleamed golden in the sunlight. She smiled. Will very nearly smiled in response, because he was unused to the sweetness and gentleness a woman could put into a smile, and it unsettled him.

Some background to the above: The woman is Lyra's mom, the beautiful and smart Mrs Coulter. She hid Lyra in a cave and put her under a deep, deep sleep. Will is a twelve-year-old boy and a friend of Lyra. He went to the cave to rescue Lyra from her.

So ladies, know that your lovely smiles can flutter a man's heart (even a young boy's)...

And now I tag
Melody, Cmate, Julia, Wendy and Rhinoa.

Book Talk

"Books give us pleasure not because they make us comfortable, though some good ones may, but because they entertain us, they make us laugh, they make us cry; they inform, persuade, disturb, convince, seduce us; they make us think, speculate, see - and we recognize what we see as true, not as the truth but as a truth in the writer's fabulous construction that corresponds to what we have observed in ourselves, or others, or in the world at large, or can conceive of observing."

- William McPherson
