Dance Upon the Air (Book 1)

When Nell Channing arrives on Three Sisters Island, she believes that she's finally found refuge from her abusive husband -- and from the terrifying life she fled so desperately eight months ago... Careful to conceal her identity, she takes a job as a cook at the local bookstore cafe -- and begins to explore her feelings for local policeman, Zack Todd. But just as Nell starts to wonder if she'll ever be able to break free of her fear, she realises that the island suffers under a terrible curse -- one that can only be broken by the descendants of the Three Sisters, the witches who settled on the island back in 1692. And now, with help of two other strong, gifted woman-- and with the nightmares of the past haunting her every step -- she must find the power to save her home, her love and herself... - Synopsis from the back cover of the novel.

Nora Roberts never fails to deliver. The first book of the Three Sisters Island trilogy got me hooked and wanting more. Two breakfasts, two work lunches and two evenings later (including today), I am proud to announce I have finished Dance Upon the Air. And happy to embark on book two: Heaven and Earth.

The synopsis mentioned about two strong and gifted women and they are Mia Devlin (a breathtakingly beautiful witch) and Ripley Todd (Zack Todd's lean and strong younger sister). Zack is the sheriff on that little island and Ripley is his deputy. Together, they keep the island safe and sound. Mia, a practical and enterprising witch owns the bookstore cafe and it is here where Nell, the protagonist found her job when she first set foot on the island (after successfully plotted her escape from her sociopath husband). Now, Evan Remington the sociopath husband is a charming and handsome guy and never in your life, imagine that he is abusive. He is a well known and successful businessman too.

Mia discovers that Nell has powers similar to hers and Ripley's. Nell does not know and Ripley refuses to have anything to do with hers. These three women, it turns out, are the descendants of the legendary Three Sisters who formed the island with their magic way back in 1692. Together, they must form the circle to break the curse.

Mia, Ripley and Zack play an important part in helping Nell overcome the danger which is haunting her. Zack has never had such intense feelings for a woman before and Nell does it for him. It takes her a while to give in to her feelings for Zack and to overcome her fear of men, no thanks to her abusive husband.

I love reading the romantic part, seeing how Zack persistently pursues her with much patience and love. But Nell's unspoken past nearly break that bond. I also enjoy the tension between Mia and Ripley each time they bump into each other. Funnily they were best childhood friends. It is also nice to see the affection between Zack and her sister, and how they would do anything for each other. Friendship, trust, love -- all beautifully woven together by Nora Roberts. The story had me guessing what is going to happen next. The foreboding of evil is suspenseful. I kept wondering how Nell will face her situation. So did Nell find the power to save her home, her love and herself? Read it to find out!

I learned that we all need friends and love conquers everything. Now, on to book two!
