Be Careful What You Wish For

Be Careful What You Wish For by Alexandra Potter is a fun read; another feel-good fiction ideal for pleasure reading, especially when you’re on a holiday. I started when I left for Singapore on Saturday, but only finished it yesterday. There’s too much action so I skipped the reading. *GRIN*

Heather Hamilton is an assistant photographer and she has been helping Brian with wedding photography for the past 6 years. She is always wishing for things – everyday wishes such as a parking spot, a seat in the train, eat ice cream and not get fat – stuff that you don’t usually give much thought to.

One lucky rainy day, she bumps into a gypsy lady who is persistent in selling her lucky heather. She bought one to shoo the gypsy off, but little did she know, things indeed begin to work in her favor. A cute American guy, Gabe who aspires to be a stand-up comedian responds to her ad for a housemate; she dates her hunky neighbor, James who before this never seems to notice her; plus a host of other incidents, including England winning a football match by miracle!

I won’t give much of the plot away. Find out for yourself what happens to Heather and James the Perfect Man – whether or not they survive the too-good-to-be-true relationship. Some feelings develop between her and Gabe while he lodges at her place. She would like to think that it’s strictly platonic but something else is brewing. One usually does not know until time beckons.

I almost did not make it to the end of the book because frankly, I was quite irritated with the ramblings. But I persevered and things started to pick up again. Ms Potter did a better job with Me and Mr Darcy.

So… to top it all up: What a girl wants, isn’t always what a girl needs…
