Meet Poh Lin

I was introduced to Poh Lin in late 2005 by Ps Leong Chik Kee when she asked him about the photos I took for church ministry and missions fairs. From there, we continued to keep in touch through e-mail. She is ill and bedridden; thus, is unable go to church or participate in any of the church activities. I jumped on the chance to interview her for our church magazine Rejoice when the opportunity knocks. I wanted very much to pay her a visit. Today, one and a half years later, we finally met. I was invited for lunch at her home and at the same time, interview her for the said article. She also introduced me to her husband, Aik Jong. The couple is such a blessing.

A video grab of Poh Lin few years back

I had a wonderful fellowship with both of them over lunch. Poh Lin is very articulate and at 60 years young, full of zest. She talked enthusiastically about her two children, Ai-lin and Ishmael. She talked about her late mother. She stressed the importance of mentoring, both as a mentor and a mentee. Her husband listened intently to her as she talked about him. I noticed how well they complemented each other. Both have different characteristics, likes and dislikes, and it's amazing to see how God brought these two people together. I enjoyed listening to both of them. They also asked me about myself and my family.

Her family members are her pillar of strength. Despite her infirmity, she is a shining example to the rest of us. There are, of course, times when she's down and discouraged, but she said her family gives her much encouragement. God gives her hope and strengthens her.

When I asked how she keeps in touch with the outside world, she said mostly by phone calls. Folks also come to visit her. Then, her husband bought her a PC two years ago and she has been using it fruitfully to reach out to her friends and family members. She also uses it to listen to online sermons, interviews, Christian news, etc. She showed me a few of the wonderful Christian websites she constantly visits. I'm so thankful to her and I've learned so much today!

Before I left, she prayed for me, my family, and the article I am going to write. She also prayed for Malaysia. Words cannot tell how much I am blessed by this godly lady -- physically frail, but spiritually a fortress. Strong yet gentle. I left the house refreshed and charged. Thank you, God for bringing me to Poh Lin!
