BOOK REVIEW: I'm Not Sick, Just A Bit Unwell

I recently had the opportunity to read Yvonne Foong’s self-published biography/story on her fight with a disabling illness called Neurofibromatosis or NF for short. The book I’m Not Sick, Just A Bit Unwell is courageous and seeing how Yvonne face the disease and overcome obstacles after obstacles is really inspirational. Reading her story made me think about how much I have taken my own body for granted when every part is functioning so well.

There are three parts to the book: Part 1 is about her life with NF; Part 2 talks about NF in more details; and Part 3 features patient testimonials from all over the world. While the disease is dreadful, it is comforting to know that there is a community of people who is going through the same suffering, yet is supportive of each other. There are also photos of her as young as 7 years old right up to the more current ones in 2005.

She also spoke about her exhilarating experience in knowing God and accepting Him into her life. Since then, her attitude towards life changed and it is such a joy to see her praising Him tremendously. There is hope in every situation.

I had the good fortune of knowing John Ling, author of Fourteen Bullets a few years back when he visited my personal website and recently, my blog. Yvonne Foong was his one-time protege. He says of Yvonne's book:

Touchingly honest and intensely absorbing. A real page turner for Malaysians of all ages.

How I agree with you, John!
